Wordle Helper
Turn today's greens, yellows, and grays into a shortlist — every answer that still fits, updated as you type.
Example: _A_E_ = A is 2nd, E is 4th.
How to use the Wordle Helper
- Enter your greens in the pattern — e.g.
_A_E_for a green A second and green E fourth. - Enter your yellows in "included", comma-separated. Repeat a letter (
ee) when the clue says there are two. - Enter your grays in "excluded" — then scan the candidates, alphabetical, with an exact count.
The gray-that-isn't rule
Wordle's trickiest moment: you guess a letter twice, one copy goes gray and the other goes yellow. The gray does not mean the letter is absent — it means there's only one of it. This helper gets that right: any letter in your pattern or included list is exempt from the excluded filter, so a gray mark can never overrule a green or yellow one.
How it works under the hood
The page embeds 828 five-letter English words from the codex's shared word list. Every keystroke runs three cheap checks per word — positional match, included-letter counts (with multiplicity), excluded-letter absence — and re-renders the survivors alphabetically. The display caps at 200 candidates so the page stays instant, but the count is always exact. All local, all in your browser.
- How do I use the Wordle helper?
- Type your green letters into the pattern using underscores for unknowns (a green A in position 2 and green E in position 4 becomes _A_E_), your yellow letters into 'included', and your gray letters into 'excluded'. The candidate list updates on every keystroke.
- What does the underscore mean in the pattern?
- An underscore means 'this position is still unknown' — any letter can go there. So _A_E_ means a five-letter word with A second and E fourth, anything elsewhere.
- How do I enter a double letter, like two E's?
- Type the letter twice in the 'included' box — 'ee' means the answer must contain at least two E's. A single 'e' only requires one.
- A letter is gray in one guess but green in another — what do I do?
- Put it in both boxes. A gray mark never overrules a green or yellow one here: any letter in the pattern or the included list is exempt from the excluded filter, which matches how Wordle actually scores repeated letters.
- How many words does the helper know?
- 828 five-letter English words, drawn from the codex's shared word list. It's tuned for common vocabulary rather than the full dictionary, so very obscure answers may be missing.
- Is my input sent anywhere?
- No. The word list lives in the page and every filter runs in your browser with JavaScript. Nothing is uploaded, stored, or tracked.
