Ratio Simplifier
Reduce any ratio to simplest form, scale it to a new value, or split an amount fairly — with every step shown.
2–4 terms separated by colons, positive numbers — decimals are fine, e.g. 4:8:12 or 0.75:1.5

How to use the ratio simplifier
- Type your ratio with colons between terms — 2 to 4 terms, e.g. 12:18 or 4:8:12. Decimals are fine.
- Press Simplify to get the ratio in lowest terms, the GCF, and every division step.
- To resize the ratio, enter the new value for the first term and press Scale ratio — every term grows or shrinks by the same factor.
- To split money or points, enter the amount and press Divide amount — each share and its percentage are listed.
Frequently asked questions
What does it mean to simplify a ratio?
Divide every term by their greatest common factor (GCF) — the biggest number that divides all of them. 12:18 becomes 2:3 because 6 divides both.
How do you simplify a ratio with decimals?
Multiply every term by a power of 10 to clear the decimals first, then divide by the GCF. 0.75:1.5 becomes 75:150, and dividing by 75 gives 1:2.
How do you scale a ratio up or down?
Multiply every term by the same number. To scale 2:3 so the first term is 10, multiply by 5 (10 ÷ 2) to get 10:15.
How do you divide an amount in a given ratio?
Add the terms to get the total parts, then each share gets its fraction of the amount. $100 in ratio 2:3 means 5 parts, so the shares are $40 and $60.
Can a ratio have more than two terms?
Yes — this tool handles 2 to 4 terms. 4:8:12 simplifies to 1:2:3 by dividing every term by 4.
