Speed / Distance / Time Calculator
Cover the one you don't know — the v = d/t triangle reveals the rest.
How to solve a speed, distance, or time problem
- Choose what to solve for — speed, distance, or time.
- Enter the other two and pick their units — mix km/h with miles if you like.
- Press Calculate. The result comes back in the unit you picked for it.
- Sanity-check the units — a speed result in m/s should look smaller than the same trip in km/h.
Frequently asked questions
What is the speed distance time formula?
Speed = distance ÷ time (v = d/t). Rearranged: distance = speed × time, and time = distance ÷ speed. This calculator solves whichever one you don’t know.
How do you convert km/h to m/s?
Divide the km/h value by 3.6. For example, 50 km/h ÷ 3.6 ≈ 13.89 m/s. Going the other way, multiply m/s by 3.6.
How do you convert mph to km/h?
Multiply mph by 1.60934. So 60 mph ≈ 96.56 km/h. Divide km/h by 1.60934 to go back to mph.
How long does it take to travel 100 km at 50 km/h?
Time = distance ÷ speed = 100 ÷ 50 = 2 hours.
Why is distance = speed × time true?
Speed is distance covered per unit of time, so covering time-seconds at that rate multiplies out to the total distance. If you walk 2 m/s for 30 s, you cover 2 × 30 = 60 m.
